Boston Whaler - My Transom Savers 2
The bolts used when the Yamaha 90 was hung in 2008 were 12mm diameter bolts. When I re-configured the set-up I went with 316 S.S. 1/2-20 (varied lengths) with brass nylok or safety nuts. I did have to run a 1/2 drill through the transom to clean out the thru-holes. The 12mm bolts had been improperly sealed during the rigging and moisture had seeped in. I used 3M's 4200 sealant when I attached the plated to the transom and used liberal amounts as the new bolts were introduced through the transom. I also beaded with the 4200 sealant the back area of the O/B's trim bracket were the bolts pass through before sandwiching the assembly to the transom.
