Keep in mind that all of the aluminum and accessories were done I locally after I got the boat from the factory.

Thank you for the compliments! Ordering from the Brunswick Commercial Division was easy and painless. 120 days from the first time I spoke to them until the boat was in my hands. Not bad for a custom build.

Welcome to the 17 club! Hope you get the engine running great. Best all around boat I've ever had. 23 years of great service and the only way I would ever get rid of it is for a garage kept one in perfect condition. No spider cracks or crazing.

Nice Looking Whaler you have there. I really like the center console out of mahogany. I have never seen anything like it before. Welcome to the club.

I consider your 1976 Boston Whaler Sakonnet a rare 17 foot smirked hull boat. I have never seen one in person. I noticed you have the optional forward seat on your console. It is still a Sakonnet, even without the forward platform; 1976 was the last year of the Sakonnet model.

Hello Joe,

I remember a post of yours pointing out a brass screw together dain tube that could be used on a 17. Do you remember where that can be purchased? Thank you, Bill Trombello

Just today I ordered a 2017 Suzuki 60HP. I was trying to hold out and get a 2018 but the wait was killing me. The dealer couldn't commit to when the new year model was coming out and there were no differences in the 2018. The warranty was still 6 years so i just bit the bullet and pulled the trigger. It should be installed the Monday before Thanksgiving yee haaa. I'll get some pics posted when she's ready. Maybe you ask why I didn't get the 70HP. Reason; the weight was the same as a 90HP. I could have gone with the F70 Yammy but I like the Suzuki dealer in our area and know he will jump right on it if I have any issues.

I was looking through some of the links you provided me in one of my post and a couple more and see that you have posted some of the catalogs for Whalers in past years. The guy that sold me my 1971 included a lot of Whaler brochures and price sheets for that year. Is that something that you guys may be interested in? There is a 1971 post card introducing the Sourpuss being pulled by a Wagoneer. i also have a rail instalation guild for a Sourpuss.

Glad I followed Joe's link to this. Amazing job. I may be building a console myself this winter. Very smart you kept away from penetrating the deck of the boat as much as possible.
What power is going on it?

Hello I was reading your post and wanted to send you a message but see that you haven't been to this website for quite sometime. I wanted to share with you the significants of the boat you purchased. There was approximately 3 years that they made this particular Whaler so I wanted you to know what you have. Whaler changed the hull design in 1971 to the "smirk" hull. In the transition they kept the interior blue for 3 years only and then switched to desert tan and raised the transom to 20". I can't figure out how many of these blue interior smirks were made but I would venture to say not that many. I have a 1971 with a matching year 20hp Mercury welcome to the club.

nice looking boat!
I was looking at your rear seat and love it. I hope to build something similar. I just got a 1988 Montauk and am restoring it (it's not in too bad a shape now).
I like the flush mount rod holders in your RPS seat. Can I ask where you got them? I am finding that the ones I see are too wide and or too long. The top of my seat I believe is 3 1/2" wide?
Thanks for any help,
Bill

To your question: "Do you believe they cut off the normin pin?" Here is a little known fact. The factory cut the norman pin mount very much like it appears in your photograph when they installed the Menemsha model fiberglass superstructure onto a 16.7 hull.
