Boston Whaler - Transom after transom filler
Not SeaCast. Before I poured the transom, I contacted the Nida Bond manufacturer and asked if any polyester resin used for reinforcing the transom would form a primary bond. They said yes. So, before I poured the Nida-Bond, I reinforced the corners with fiberglass and isothalic laminating polyester resin, except for the inner corner port side.... Of course, there was a hole in a small portion of the inner corner port side...the Nida Bond came out of it and formed a lovely puddle in the bottom of the boat. Thank goodness for acetone and paper towels.... it eventually gelled and came out fine. The Nida-bond, I believe, is tailor made for this type of construction. The Boston Whaler transom has ~3/8 inch fiberglass skins. The Nida-bond is specifically designed for this type of construction and pours like maple syrup. The pouring took about ten minutes.

As for strength, with my 115 hp motor and the thick skins, I think the transom would have been fine if it had wood shavings in it....never mind the Nida bond, which has compression strength rivaling concrete.

How to you allow for the transom thru drains when you poured? When you made the pour did you put a spacer/brass tube in place and then poor?
