Although the varnish was in poor shape, the boat's mahogany interior components were in fair shape and had not been altered or drilled by the prior owner. I attribute Whaler's 1988 introduction of a nylon washer behind each finish washer for protecting the finish (and therefore the wood) behind the finish washer from water damage. The anchor hatch cover, console instrument panel, and aft bench cleats (all constructed from plywood) had begun to delaminate and had to be replaced.
The 1988 Johnson 70 HP outboard was removed and a 2021 Suzuki DF70A outboard was ordered in mid-March 2021. The supply of outboards had been adversely affected by the pandemic and as such, the Suzuki outboard had not been delivered by mid-August.
