I considered a few different options to repair the damaged holes. Plug the holes with wood dowel material and epoxy resin, use 2 part epoxy and just fill in the holes or simply do away with the tab's. Fortunately I happened upon a better concept, metal thread inserts. Finding the right style was turning into a mission. A friend suggested McMaster-Carr's website. I finally found the perfect design and size for my experiment.
