Pictured are the assembled components of the re-crimping assembly ready for the vice. As you can see the two 1-1/4" union nuts sandwich the capsule crimp area very nicely. This assembly was then placed in a vice and re-crimped.
This really seems to have done the trick and all leaks appear to be fixed.

I set a flanged vise grip tool to slightly compress the lip as I gently squeezed. I moved slowly around the circumference, moving a 1/4" at a time. You obviously don't need to squeeze much.
After a few days without a bubble I declared success.
