After running aground at the beach this summer (and taking the paint off my lower unit) I decided it would be a good idea to have a back up in the event of a catastrophic strike.

So, I purchased an old Tohatsu M50D2 lower unit from my local marina for $250 and went to work rebuilding and refinishing it. First order of business was draining the gear oil and disassembly.
