The originals have two significant issues: The original owner had mounted and remounted multiple downriggers, multiple times, so there were over 40 dowel (not proper teak plugs) plugs in each side. On top of this, the boards had been poorly coated with some sort of dark brown varnish. I wanted an OEM look oil finish, and didn't think they could ever be made attractive again.
The old boards were taken off and used as a pattern for the new boards. As recommended by Whaler Central member Blackduck, we started at 13/16" thick for the replacements.
