Got the boat in the water today! First splash of the seaon. Even went swimming. 66 degrees already! Wow....
So, I have a 90 hp merc 4 stroke with about 30 hours on it. After floating and swimming for a while, I noticed a small oil sheen coming from the motor exhaust area. (halfway up the lower unit)
I didn't think much of it, because it is the first run of the season, I had only idled to our location, and I figured some of the fogging oil I winterize with was blowing out. I assumed that when we were done swimming, I would run up to WOT and clear it out, so we did.
When were back at the launch putting her on the trailer, I noticed a larger sheen behind the motor, AND some greyish goop around the exhaust that sits halfway up the lower unit.
Is it possible I overfilled either the motor oil or gear oil? It was too dark when we got back to check the engine oil. Help please... this is a new motor and I hope I didn't mess it up somehow! The motor is running well and feels great....
