The engines are new for this year. The 70 is the old 60hp. If you do repower please let us know .

With gas at 3.00 a gal. I would opt for single engine . You'll have less drag in the water from only one gear case, less weight in the stern for better trim (underway and dockside), better hole shot. The engines of today are far more reliable than long ago. But that being said, if you're going 10 to 15 miles offshore, you could put an aux. kicker on the stern. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with which ever you decide to go, and let us know ~

560 pounds is a lot of weight to put on the transom of an Outrage 18.
The classic Outrage 18 does best with a single 150. It will cost less to rig, less to operate and insure, will float higher with less chance of seas breaking into the boat and will be faster and more fuel efficient with a single 150.
Unless you troll all day at 5-10 knots (as some in Hawaii do), there is really no good reason for twin 60s or 70s.

I just replaced my 1994 150 Ocean Pro with a 2010 Honda 150 4 stroke on my 1986 18' Outrage and love the gas I'm saving and less noise. This increased the weight on the transom by about 65 pounds with this 485 pound motor. I would not go heavier than that if I were you. I even moved my 12V battery from the rear to inside the center console and remove the VRO tank from the center console which is no longer needed. Still, the back end of the boat seats lower in the water than I expected. On a plane the boat rides a little better in higher seas but when I stop I now get more water in the rear over the transom than before by wave action. Not only is the transom lower in the water but the weight makes it less buoyant back there. I can see I can put more people in the bow of the boat now and they keep drier with the higher ride there now.

Here are the current weights of single motors for the Outrage 18'.
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...ticle_id=6
The Outrage 18' takes a 25 inch shaft when using a single motor.
Some of the weights listed are for 20 inch shafts because the manufacturer does not list the weight of the motors with 25 inch shafts. Therefore, you must add a few pounds to the motors that are listed as 20 inch shafts.

That sounds like a great way to re-power if you want to stay with twins. 1987 Mercury 70hp ELPTO weighed in at 280 lbs. and sure there were some Outrages at the time with those.

1984 Outrage 18...Yamaha T50...that's right, 50hp |

sounds like an awsome idea
my only problem with the newest yamaha's is the shifting noise that they make.
