Does anyone know if it is possible to cut the control cables from the throttle to the outboard to length. I just purchased a used 30 horse Tohatsu for my 13' Sport. The cables that came with the engine are way too long. Wondering if I can cut them so I don't have a ton of extra cable. Thanks.

I've actually never seen anyone try this although I can think of reasons not to. Without the proper ends, the cable ends will fray badly and will the sheath. You'll also expose more of the cable end to water intrusion and corrosion. Cables are fairly cheap, you should be able to get both for around $60.

The cables are sealed at the factory with the proper ends. Buy new cables, you will be happy in the long run.

Don't cut the cables. Get the right ones as the controler will work better and the job will look better too.

If you can find the minimum recommended radius you might be able to loop the extra length up under the console. I did it for short while on my 15' CC. Worked smooth but I never actually went boating with that engine mounted. Still, if I ever get back to that point I won't hesitate to try it as a real solution.
