Hi Folks,

I am new to the list, but I see a great deal of enthusiasm in the discussions so I thought I would throw this out there:

I have a 1997 Cross Tackle 20, which I think is based on the Outrage 19 hull of the time. I cannot seem to find specs on it, but I think it weighs a little over 2000 dry with no engine. I currently have a 1997 Merc 200 EFI that runs very well, but has an insatiable appetite for fuel. It also has two speeds, trolling and 40 knots. It seems the boat is a bit over powered, at least for me.

I am looking at the Etecs and trying to decide if the 115 or the 130 have enough power.

I don't need 40 knots like some of you. If I can get 25 knots with 4 people and gear, I'd be very happy and get to my fishing grounds in reasonable time.

Thanks in advance for any input. If there are any other cross tackle owners out there I would like to hear from you. Seems not many were made.

Todd

From the 1997 Boston Whaler Catalog

Length = 19' 8"
Beam = 8' 4"
Draft = 15"
Weight = 2200 lbs
Max Engine = 225hp
Fuel Cap = 87 gal

I wouldn't put anything less than 200hp on the back of that model.
Many people think putting a smaller engine on will save fuel. Not so. You will be working the engine much harder and essentially putting more stress on the engine and burning just as much or even more fuel. Performance will be affected horribly.

You can use this guide for your model as the Classic 22' hulls have the same rated max hp of 225.

Thanks Joe for the reference information and the idea of using the 22 as comparison. I agree that at some point, the engine is too small and works to hard, but I am still not completely convinced that it needs 200hp since mine with that engine now seems way over powered. I do see a couple of owners of 22s at the bottom of the link you sent me commenting that they are happy with 150s.

I can always just run it until I need to replace it, but I am using it less overall than I used to due to fuel prices, but then aren't we all.
