I'm currently working on a 1970 17-foot Whaler and have a question about which engine I should power it with.
(I'm also selling a 1971 17-foot Whaler, but the engine on it is scaring people away. It's a souped up 1981 115 hp. It runs like a champ, but it's not the best looking.)
Anyway, I really want to sell my boat and recently came across a 1979 100 hp Evinrude with good compression and low hours. It came off a bass boat and has never touched salt water.
I also have a 1987 88 spl I was planning to put on the boat I'm currently working on. It's a solid motor, good compression and also low hours.
So, my question is, should I put the 100 or the 88 on my project boat? Whichever one I don't use will go on the boat I'm selling.
Personally, I'm leaning towards keeping the 88 (because it's newer), putting the 100 on the boat I'm selling and throwing in the 115 for parts.
