I require a new 2 stroke motor for my launch. What is the perfect 25 HP motor...yes must be a 25 HP...for the 11' these days? 2 strokes are the norm now but I am aware that many are bringing back 2 strokes again but usually tiller steer. I also want the electric start option like my old 25 HP Johnson. Any advice is appreciated.

There are a lot of 25 hp motors listed here in the Current Engine Choices 13' models along with the weights of the motors.

Thank you Joe. I understand from the 'dock talk' that Johnson may be reproducing a 2-stroke remote steer 15" shaft again. I didn't see that model in the list. If I find the source of these, I will update the list. I just joined the Whaler Central membership and hope to gain access to a lot of knowledge from others.

Hi Calvin,
We only use the information that is listed on the respective engine manufactures websites as being current available engines.
I have only heard rumors or Mercury bringing back a 2 stroke or two.
Remember, old dirty 2 strokes are just about dead.
Most engines these days are going clean for the environment.

I did get some preliminary info on Evinrude's E-Tec system that has proven to be cleaner running than most 4-strokes. The reason I want a 2-stroke is simply to keep the weight down. My source says Evinrude does produce a 2-stroke, 15", remote steer, electric start in their 2010 motor line up. I'll be getting confirmation of this tomorrow. If this is true, I am happy...untilI see the price I'm sure.

Are there any 25 hp. Yamaha outboards left out there? They are the last to sell them in the U.S.

What I am learning is there are still 2-stroke 25HP motors made, but most only have tiller and manual start. For all of those who have 11' sport Whalers, it is desireable to have a 25HP with the right options...and it appears Evinrude does. Mercury doesn't make them any longer with remote steer.

Calvin,
Why don't you post some pics of your ride. We 11 ft owners are a minority and I'd love to see others. Don't know if I'm out of line here, but your options might expand a bit if you look at a larger hp 2-stroke (being that you're looking for a 2-stroke). From what I've learned here on WC and other research, it might be a bit oversize, but I haven't found original capacity plates for the 11 ft. yet, stating the recommended/max hp rating.
Good luck,
Mike

Forgot to mention, my Evinrude hase a boss on the side for a tiller steer handle, but also has a hole in the bar across the front for a steering cable attachment. (I've got the Sport model with a steering console.) The motor you're considering might come as a tiller steer type, but might be able to be converted with a new Teleflex or other steering system.

Yikes! So I'm running twice the hp I should be?! I better not tell my wife or she won't step foot in my 11 when I get it in the water! I guess I'll have to play low and slow.

Well, here is the scoop on the Evinrude 25 HP new 2010 model. It is electric start with remote steering...but only available in 20" shaft. Rats! So close. It has been suggested I raise the transom 5" to accomodate the 20" leg, but I have seen those done to other types of boats they look ridiculous (in my opinion). So, I am back to locating a used motor with the right options. I amy end up with a 20 year old motor like the 25HP I have now, but in better condition....or I'll just scrap the Whaler and buy an inflatable. Gadzooks! What have I said?!
