After three years of looking I am finally going to sell my engine and re-power with that ETEC 150. A nice person found me and wants to by my Mercury at a fair price. And I got a fair price on an E-TEC 150, and I get the promotionals because it will be a done deal before 15 April.
Each year for the past three years or so, I have worked hard to find that elusive balance between a good seller and a good buyer and I'm happy to say we are both going to be very happy people tomorrow morning.

I am thrilled to be able to get that dream engine I always wanted. I can't wait to take her out for the first time. I have been warned to watch out as that throttle will push me back on my backside! Thanks Ren'e. And of course others have been wonderful in helping me with information all along thos trail.

It was just a matter of time and I don't give up easily.

If all works out I will have my Mercury derigged and DAS BOAT re-rigged with the E-TEC starting Monday, after I close the deal tomorrow morning.

I can't say enough about that Mercury I have had on Das Boat--what a great engine, economical and never a wimper of trouble ever. I loved that engine, but really wanted to try that E-TEC. When you get to be a certain age, you don't put things off for later, at least I don't. Life is to short to wait to long.

I am not sure what propeller should go on DAS BOAT, so any constructive help I can get there would be helpful. And I thank you in advance. I know there is some kind of formula somewhere to figure that out, but I also know Tom and some other have a lot of knowledge, so some asistance is appreciated. I have not found anyone with a Nantucket who has put a 150 E-TEC on her back, I would thing because people got new engines affiliated with Boston Whaler and Mercury. But even the re-powered ones were mostly Yamaha, Honda, or Verado, so this could be a not-so-common pairing of boat and engine and may be interesting to find out what performance comes out of the pairing.

I have the biggest smile on my face as I write thisSmile))

The dirty deeds are done! Finally it has happenedSmile)))))
Merc is sold to a fine new Boston Whaler friend.

What a class act Tom is. Selling dealer was wonderful.

Basicly, here a price for the motor, add 2 percent tax and you can have anything you want on thereSmile And that included rigging, I-command, the works....I just told the dealer what I wanted and he said sure thing!Didn't even count the cash, just said fineSmileWhat customer service!

Also, it helped that I got the 5 year warranty as well.

The 150 ETEC will be installed this coming week as everything needed is in the shop already.I should be all set for Rock Fish Season starting the 17th. waiting on some preliminary input from people on a possible match for a prop(included)...so let me here from you...hope to hash it out here in the thread

alsoSmile)so helpful replys are very welcomed.

I'm still smiling from ear to earSmile))

Kamie has to be thanked also as she gave me a lot of information and understanding.(always)the voice of reason and consistant common sense.

There was nothing coom sense about this decision, it was all about wanting it and finding a way to get something i really wanted. Still SmilingSmile

Congratulations Yiddil.

Looking forward to hearing your report on how you like the E-Tec compared to the Mercury 150 2 stroke.

Thanks Phil,

Then he will definitely notice a difference between a 115 and a 150 no matter what brand...

Yiddel, yes, hang on tight then...

Joe, Phil,

I hav ebeen warned about the "hold On tight" stuff, actually, Ive been on Kamie's 175 ETEC rigged Outrage and said "wow " when I took the helm a few times...A few other people have told me to be careful also...they have been knocked down and off balance not realizing what this can do to a steady person.

Thnaks, Im thrilled! I really had my heart set on one for years now....

Is there a way to figure out props for this bad boy??

If you only knew the past problems finding this....finally!

Thanks, Henry

Congrats Henry,

I'm just glad he finally got the new engine. Now we can go out on his boat, I won't complain about the cloud of smoke

Henry,

I recommend you try a 14-1/4" x17" Stiletto Advantage 4.75 or a 14-1/4" x 18" Mercury Enertia propeller.

kamie, Now you know my engine after it warmed up a bit, didn't smoke all much at allSmile)

But Yes, I want all my friends to breath deep wiith out choking.

I never heard that merc called that Phil...funny

In in all fairness, it was very pleased with that MERC. 115 Classic

I have not a single complaint, it served me well all these years and the best part is I now will have the engine I always wanted...

Correction...my first interest in a repower was back in 2005...so its been 5 years!...

But at that time the ETEC was just about to come out and no one knew alot about them...

But now we knowSmile)

Cant wait to get you out there Kamie...and just scoot!!!

I was doing a search for you on prop recommendations while Tom posted.

Whalerman posted in this thread that he sees 56mph with his Outrage 18 and a 150 hp ETEC so I would make sure you have a good grip. Maybe seat belts should be on your wish list. LOL.

I have a hard time imagining going that fast since my waters are snotty on a good day. Then again Henry, if your waters are anything like Long Island sound the day we did NYC, your going to have a BLAST!

Tom, Please explain how you came to that recommendation...

Phil...I really cant see me doing 50MPH, but they do assume it my be in the mid to high 40s.....heck it might be advantageous to get some seat belts...SmileI just cant wait ..

should be a blastSmile

How did he get to 56 MPH...when Kamie has a 175 on hers and as far as I know, its no way 56 mph>>>???

Hi and congrats!!! Those figures are the rpm range- 5600 to 5700 wot. My top speed is arround 50 mph all trimmed out, AV plate 1 1/2" above the keel. Prop is a Viper 14 3/4"x 17". Have the oil set for XD100 for engine longevity. The oil is a bit expensive but worth it as the engines are expensive to begin with. The Whaler will look great so post some pictures, yes , I know, I haven't posted any but soon. Need a digital camera first, spare change goes to the outrage!!!! Oh yea, that smile will stay for along time, been 3yrs for me.

I retired my old Merc 115 last summer for a new Etec 115. The Merc was still running strong but repairs were getting more frequent and some of the motor's lower fasteners had their heads almost completely corroded away after many years of salt. The re-power was also an opportunity for me to completely rewire the entire boat and move my battereis from the transom to the center console. Haven't looked back since. The Etec has been wonderful and significantly outperforms my old Merc at every rpm. I'm now rarely ever past half throttle even when getting up on a plane. If I do plane with full throttle, I'm quickly pulling it back as she clears the bow wake because the boat just takes off like a rocket and pulls hard to top speed.

I'm working this weekend while my brother is enjoying my boat. Its the first time he has taken it out since the re-power. He called me a few days ago about 10 minute after putting her into the water and all he could say was WOW!

Looking forward to reading about your experience.

Whalerman thanks for the post...you have a outrage thats 1200 lbs right? old one...this is a 2004 so its almost double the weight...and so I do not expect 50's out of this engine and config. A long time ago i made it clear that I just dont need to go that fast and it was not the main reason for the buy..but its wonderful to know I can move a bit quicker than I used toSmile))

Yes, it's the older style. Don't usualy go that fast. As Johnny says about half throttle is plenty, but you've got the resurve if needed.

James, thanks for posting that for me...

I seem to be picture posting challanged at both sites...

The prop is a 19P viper and I'm hoping it will not need an adjustment to a 17P but the dealer will do that if needed.

I really think I got a great deal froma real gentleman of a dealer...He originally said "anything you want" with this engine and he gave me anything I wanted for a set price

that was thousands less than the 5 competitors I worked with this year, and the 4 competitors I worked with the last 3 years each before that.

I had just about given up when it all came together.

Very interesting about the way you change these plugs...and hoiw they line up with injectors to work right...winterizing is so easy, I was amazed.

The cowling is lighter than any cowling Ive ever lifted. And she was so quite at Idle...yet when you punch her she Growels...definetly differnet than the Merc.

still learning about her capabilities...will get the soft ware and the cable so I can get reports on her...

will post better pics one day soon...been a crazy few weeks...

Henry

Phil...thanks for the research on the prop...Dealer gave me a 19P Viper prop to start off with..if I need a 17, Im sure I can swap it out but he felt that would be the one..hes been spot right on with almost everything so I have trust in his 40 years doing this. He gave me everything he promised to give me, including the prop, deriged the Merc and riged the ETEC, 3 sm dials, 1 large , all I command, 1.8 oil tank, GPS and digital fuel sensor, mem. mods as I asked for.
I think they hit the ball out of the park compared to others I tryed to deal with.

Kamie, who has the 175, has been a true friend once again, guilding me through the process, and I have learned and continue to learn so much as I go forward.

Everyone on this site and others have been nice and patient with me all this time and Im very thankful to have all these people as friends who are there to help.

But you can't all get on Das BOat, at Das House, with the Das ETEC all at once...get on lineSmile)) hehe Kamie is first thoughSmile She puts up with me more than anyoneSmile)
