I have a nantucket 19 and was wondering what other did for music , should i install radio/cd player and 2 speakers and cut into the console? I really dont want to have to cut into it though. Can I just do 2 speakers an amp and a place to hook in ipod? Curious what others have done with the very limited space on 19 cc. Also is this a hard thing to do (wiring etc) or can a 1st timer do it?
That is excatly what I did on my 13'. Works great! I can email pics. if you like...I never did figure out how to post pics. on this site. Yeah I know...I must be a dumb a...
Done a bunch of them and It's not difficult all if you have a few tools and basic knowledge of their use. Drill and bits, Jigsaw, screwdrivers, wire strippers and crimpers, hole saws (can use a jig saw for these if necessary) plus some consumable items like masking tape, heat shrink butt connectors, ring terminals, zip ties and liquid electrical tape to name a few. Electrical wiring is easy, run power directly from battery to the stereo memory (yellow wire) and the main power through a dash panel switch. Before you cut the hole for the head unit, mask the area with tape to save on scratches and gel chipping. If you have access to a hole saw, it's makes it much easier and cleaner cutting when cutting holes for speakers. Otherwise a Jig Saw works fine for this cut also. Spend the extra few bucks on a good hollow ground blade, you'll thank me for that later. ALWAYS check behind the cutting area, inside the console, BEFORE you start your cuts. (Been there, done that, it ain't pretty) Many stereos and the speakers both now come with templates, this helps immensely. They can also be installed inside the helm with a wired remote on the dash if you really wanna get fancy. It's really about what you want, and how deep are your pockets. Just about anything CAN be done if you're willing to pay for it or have the skills and tools. If you get stuck, PM me and I'll be more than happy to try and give you some advise.
On my 17 Montauk I put the stero into the console with the speakers facing aft. The stero doesn't have to be loud to hear when running at speed.
It was a simple installation. shoot me pm if you would like photos.
My system came Ipod ready. I just had to buy an adapter for the ipod cord coming out the back of the strereo. I have remote control for the stereo mounted on the dash. The stereo mounted in the upper part of the console door opening so that I can have easy access to the stereo and inner console. I can operate my ipod from the remote and I just leave the ipod in the console door cubby-cushioned of course, and ready to go. The funny thing is, I listen to it more while working on it, in or out of the water, than I do underway.
