Just talked to a suzuki dealer. He said they
are getting some Suzuki motors that have
internal corrosion that can't be fixed. I was kind
of dumbfounded, hearing this from a dealer, said it
was defective metal that Suzuki knows about , but
won't admit it.
Everything about the DF70 sounds good, but I haven't
pulled the trigger yet. This forum is so big, I would think
this would have gotten out. Or maybe this dealer is getting
cut off from Suzuki ? He did pitch the new Yamaha 70
coming out in May.

Called an ETEC dealer that used to be a Suzuki
dealer and he said some of the older motors
had a corosion problem, but not the later models,

If there was a significant corrosion "problem" you would find it by searching the boards. Any marine outboard engine is susceptible to corrosion after 5, 10, 15 years.
I would clarify with the dealer why he is recommending a newly designed motor that is not yet available over the proven DF70 design. Could it be he is getting an incentive to talk it up and sell them. Maybe the profit margin on the Yamaha is better than the Suzuki? Maybe he gets more service work from Yamaha then from Suzuki?
(I like Yamaha's having owned a 90 and own a F115)
Just because someone, a dealer in this case, says something, it does not necessarily mean it is true.
The good news in today's marine outboard offerings is that reliability is not really an issue in a buying decision anymore. It mostly boils down to; price; engine weight and having a reputable dealer that is local.
When we swapped out my friend's DF70 water pump two years ago, I believe I remember seeing small (replaceable) anti-corrosion zinc's threaded into the cooling passages in the head. You may want to ask about this on the engine you're considering as it's a good feature that would seem go a long way to preventing corrosion.
