I bought a 17' Montauk that had a worn out 115 Merc'
sold the Merc and started looking for a good used 90.
Ran across a 2007 70 HP Suzuki, four stroke, still in the
box, 5 yr warranty for about half the price of a new 2009.
Don't waterski or have a need for high speed. Motor weighs
341#. This is avery good deal for a new motor, but don't
want to be disapointed with performance. Anybody using a 70 ?

yep I got one check out my personal page Great engine! it should come with a tack prop and controls no cables. other gauges are available like volt/trim/hrs.
Friend of mine repowered his Montauk from an '89 Yamaha 90 hp to this engine a few years ago, loves it. Said while you do initially notice some difference in power, it's not enough to be concerned about, and had no regrets.
I had an Evinrude 70hp 2 stroke on a Montauk that I owned for 15 years.
The weight of this motor was 248 lbs.
There were only about 2 or 3 times I wish I would have had a 90hp...
In reality, the Montauk can not go wide open in any kind of rough water so you have to throttle back anyway.
My prior Montauk would do about 32 mph....
The lightest weight Clean "CARB 3" rated engine, now seems to be the new Yamaha 70hp 4 stroke.
I have also updated the weight on the Suzuki 60hp 4 stroke model.
I noticed that the Suzuki 60hp 4 stroke now weighs less than the 40hp and 50hp 4 stroke models. Not sure if their website is a typo or not...
Suzuki 60hp 4 stroke = 229 lbs..
The lightest Clean "CARB 3" rated 70hp...
Yamaha 70hp 4 stroke = 260 lbs (This needs to be inserted here because of the light weight.. E-Tec 90hp 2 stroke = 320 lbs.)
Suzuki 70hp 4 stroke = 341 lbs.
