Check out this list of Montauk Owners on this site in the Articles section:
http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...icle_id=17

The first Montauk was a 1973. The Montauks never had a Blue interior.

The Blue interiors were on the earlier versions of the Nauset, Sakonnet, Eastport, and other Sport series models.

You boat is very nice but the Center Console and Seating is after market and not original Whaler parts. Check this article for original console styles:

Its not my boat, its for sale in my area. It has a 50hp mid 80's Merc. He wants 4,500 for it, seems like a lot. The 115 that is on there in the pic is not running. What do you think , is the 50hp enough power? Thanks, Rich

Rich,

Many people that don't really know Whalers think that every 16/17 foot Whaler with a center console is a Montauk. As you just found out, this is not the case. However, it really doesn't matter as long as the buyer know what they are buying.

A 50 hp is marginal but does work for many people. I had a 70 hp on my prior Montauk and would not have wanted anything less.

As long as the engine is in great condition, I don't think $4500 is too much.
However, if the engine is old and crusty, then maybe you should look at something else.
The engine is a major part of the expense when purchasing a used boat, even a Whaler.
A new 90 hp engine will run around $5 or $6k by itself, give or take depending on which brand and type. 2 stroke, 4 stroke, etc....

That's a pre-'72 hull..with post 72 console & reversible pilot seat ...looks like it has the original Eastport rear seat...interesting combo...looks clean.
$4500 is a bargain...dump the motor...
This is what it may have looked like.....back when...look inside the front "cooler"...there will be a silkscreened #...your HIN...let us know....Wink
