I am looking at an 18 Outrage with a 150 Yamaha that has spent its life in salt water. Aside from compression testing, running and reviewing maintence records, what else should I do to evaluate the motor? It looks well maintained- for what its worth. I plan on using in fresh water. Any advice on preping it for life in fresh water?

I had an 89 Outrage that had been in a slip for its entire life also. It had twin 70 hp Yamahas with many corrosion problems. The lower units required a torch to be separated in order to change the impellers. They also had a non stainless steel shift shaft that was a known weak link due to rusting. Paint fading on the sunny side was another issue. Electrical corrosion such as battery cables and some of the wiring in the console had to be repaired.
If the shift shaft has to be replaced its very expensive. The other things are a lot easier to deal with.

kafffishh has nailed the big ones on the head. The shift shafts are the biggest problem with those motors. They go with out any warning so it is just best to replace it to be safe.
