I was wondering since Im restoring my outrage and have the original rod holders that have become weathered. Should I brush/file them down and refinish or just purchase new ones? I was told that their bronze plated with chrome.I would like it to stay original but whats the cost of replating?

Take them to a chrome shop and get a bid. It isn't too expensive...

The price of plating has gone up considerably in the last several years.
Even Lee's Tackle company thinks so as they stopped carrying the chromed over brass rod holders.

I was fortunate enough to buy a pair of chromed over brass rod holders for my Outrage 18' from Lee's a couple of years ago before they dropped them from their catalog.
Now it appears all they have is the Stainless Steel versions.

I don't think I would mind the SS if that was the only choice.

From what I heard, plating prices have risen in the past yrs due to enviromental issues.

For something that's not going to see a lot of wear, stainless steel is a good substitute.

They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety.
