Hi, you recieved a great Christmas gift!! When you start roll out the new rail in the sun to help make it more flexable. Find the middle of the rail and once it is plyable start installing from the bow with the middle of the rail and proceede down each side. Before final attach at the stern let the outer insert relax abit. A rubber malet might be useful to help with the install. Good luck and take your time, don't rush it

I'm not sure you're going to find much warmth up north! I used a heat gun and four of these for the job on my '69 13.

Hey, thanks for the advice. im sure the heat gun would help a lot, and the clamps. you both helped a lot. thanks again. HOPEFULLY ill find somewhere inside to do this project. we dont have a garage, and the barn is still on the drawing board Grin.

Yeah, I refurbed my 13 last summer, but not until I had the barn built to do it in!

I would definitely suggest the heat and use great care while doing so. I tried laying the rub rail in the sun on top off a black tarp but it didn't seem to help much. As the rub rail cooled, it just curled back up.
Some on here suggest rivots and others say screws, I agree that the screws have very little to hold against as the fiberglass is extremely thin in that area, I used screws and it seems to be hold ing fine. If you choose to use rivots. I might suggest keeping the screws handy until the rub rail is installed then you could go back and remove the screws and replace with rivots. I found working the corners of the bow to be the most challenging and you will most likely have to use a heat gun. I couldn't imagine bending around that corner without one.
Last thought is to be sure in having a rubber mallet avalible to encourage the insert to properly seat, rub your hand down it and make sure you don't feel any bumps. If a bump is detected give it a smack with the mallet.

Don't forget to seal the screws/screw holes.
