Hello everyone. I have a 13' and was wondering about hanging a long shaft motor on the back. Everywhere I seem to look short shaft motors are not listed with electric start and power tilt/trim (which I want). I've also seen products like the Transdapter designed just for putting a long shaft on the back. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with a product like this, or a long shaft on a 13' in general. Any disadvantages to this? Just wanna check before I do anything I'll regret. I'm restoring the boat so I've got some time to think about it.

You can't put a long shaft on a notched transom of a 13' model.
You need an adapter to raise the engine 5 inches.

Lots of other threads on this subject when doing a search.

Tohatsu makes a 40HP SS with power trim and tilt standard. It is optional on their 30HP

Sorry I took so long to reply guys, and thanks for the advice. I definitely want to raise my transom the five inches I think. Doing some research it looks like the Transdaptor is $435, a little pricey... However its the only product I've found that fills the entire transom (great for preventing swamping in the stern) and looks very well built. Its that or redoing the transom with some fiberglass work. I'm going to be purchasing a motor so I might just spend the additional $435. I'll post some pics soon, redoing the entire boat.

My tohatsu dealer has one 40 short shaft left. It comes with tach, prop, controls, power trim and gauge and steering link for $4425. The only thing else you have to buy is a battery and control cables. He is located in hingham mass which isn't that far from you. It is the same basic engiine as there 50 hp and weighs 205 lbs. I have had my 50 hp for four years and it's been great. It is 2 stroke and fuel injected. You will also have to buy the tank and water seperator. Many smaller four stroke engines cost that much. Good luck,Tom from mass.
