curious about hydrafoil's ? although im not having a problrm with planing out i just wonder if it would make an improvement on an already good performing boat/ motor. I for sure dont want to mess up a good situation. i'd like to get your thoughts. thanks
I usually do not like them if the boat is set up well. If you are happy with the hole shot and do not feel the bow needs to get back down quicker I would not install a fin. One thing you will do by installing a fin Is loose top end speed. Only a couple of mph but it will be drag and you will see it on the top end.
I Had a 14 Mckee years ago that suffered from porposing I put some home made fixed mount tabs on the back and made a world of difference.
I currently run a 1996 17 Edgewater that seems kinda heavy and I believe would benefit from a fin. It takes a lot to get it up out of the hole. I also believe I could get the same benefit from a set of smart tabs but I hate to put money into it when I hope to be in my low pro this summer.
So that falls under the catigory of too much information but again if you have a good set up I would not install a fin.
If it's under warranty, don't drill holes in the lower unit. Mercury says it will void the corrosion part of your warranty. If the boat has been set up properly, if you can run at the recommended rpms at WOT when you trim the motor out, don't do it. You're wasting money.
