I have one. There aren't many out there. But every one that has one loves them. Not the basic Whaler look, but built like a tank. Most Whaler owners don't consider ours a classic Whaler. I'm in Calif and there is another one about 70 miles south of me. You can search and find much info on this boat. You just have to look. What exact info you looking for? I'm willing to help. Where do you live? What shape is the one your looking at in and how much? Some lately have gone for in the 7k range. What do you plan on using it for? Great all around family boat and comfortable.

The 16SL, made from 1991 through 1994, is built like all other Whalers, and they all have wood in them in one form or the other. All Whaler transoms are cored with plywood.

Most models up to c. 1990 used plywood and solid wood as backing in the hull for attachment of hardware. Over the 1990s that changed to mostly phenolic resin board (WhaleBoard) but some aluminum and plywood was used too.

This is the most comprehensive discussion about the 16SL I know of. It's rather drawn out but has lots of good information.

mhill,

There are 4 members with 16SL models in their personal page.

Scroll down to 16/17 foot Boston Whalers and then scroll down to the SL model.

Thanks for the info, I've never owned a whaler before so I wasn't sure if this model still had wood in the transom or not. Going to look at it Saterday but by the price he's asking it must be a dump. I see they are still selling for 7 to 10k so I don't have my hopes up but any boats fixable if you have the time. Maybe after Saterday I'll be a whaler owner to, I hear they are really nice boats.

Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for one that needs a little work and hopefully I can save some money on. Next winter project.
