I have a 1966 13' sport. It has a 1963 40hp Evinrude, model #40362d. I've seen info on the Lark III,IV V and so on. So which one do I have?

maxrules.com has a ton of info on the older engines. You might find it there.

1966whaler....look at my personal page...does your motor look just like mine? do you have a serial number?? I can send you info on all the options it came with and specs. Based on the model # you have a 1963 Evinrude Lark IV 40 hp Selectric Shift, 15" Shaft with a generator. Engine color is Gun Metal Black.

Mark, the serial # is E01138. On the front side of the motor(under the pull rope door???) there is a big 33 on it. I think mine has been painted. It's blue(lower unit), and white(top cover).
Thanks
Brian
P.S.
After looking at your pics again, the motor itself looks very similar to mine. The covers are just different.

How can you tell what HP the old motors are? From what I've seen, they don't display the HP.

Kevin, marineengine.com is pretty informative site on hp ratings. Click on "boat motor manuals", then "Evinrude", scroll down to "select model year"(left side of page). Choose model year, then it will ask you the hp. I just played with it and clicked on a few until I found my model#? hope this helps

There is an old boat sitting in a neighbors yard with an old Evinrude. It has been there so long bushes have completely covered it. I'm not sure of the year or HP I think it says "Lark" on it.
