I have a 1972 Cohasset II with a stencil number of 3A5520.

From what I can tell this stencil number should have been a blue interior. The boat has been painted and where the paint is pealing I can see white gelcoat. Any thoughts to why it was not a blue interior?

Thanks, BG

If it's orginally a Cohasset, it came with an "off white" interior. I have the 1972 Whaler brochures scanned in my photobucket that confirm it.

My Whaler is 3A5822. Yours is probably a Cohasset as well since the hull #s are close (and it's not a blue interior) but you can confirm with Chuck Bennet at Boston Whaler.

I have a 73 Cohasset near Milwaukee, WI and my friend has one as well just up the road. I can't answer your question regarding interior color but I believe they only came in the off white. I enjoyed looking at the Cohasset photos in Photobucket and thought i would send you a link to some Whaler photos taken last year in Milwaukee. I really need to take the time to update my personal page and upload some newer photos to Photobucket. Enjoy! http://s644.photobucket.com/albums/uu169/stevesalick/?newest=1

Thanks for the pics, some I had not seen before. I noticed that all the Cohasset's have a painted piece of wood as the door on the storage box(glove box) . I have a piece of mohagany , it looks to be original ????
I also added a pic of the Cohasset to my Personal page

Not sure. Zooming in on the brochures it looks like the upper storage door on the console is white from the factory. Mine is plywood with veneer. Not sure if mine is original but it matches the brochure. Mahagony may be preferable actually? Who knows. These boats are fun, the console is good and roomy to walk around for us 21st century sized folks.

The Cohasset was only molded in off-white, not in blue.

I do not have a good explanation as to why hull #3A5520 is this color when it is said that hull # 3A6250 is the last blue 16-7" hull produced. Perhaps there was some overlap?

It would be a good question for Chuck Bennett.

The original hatch for the top of the console that flips up was a piece of plywood that had white plastic laminate on it. This typically de-laminated early on most of these models, but every now and then I see one that has the original P-lam in place.

The bow locker cover was white fiberglass.

A few models with blue interiors were still being produced until 1975/1976 like the Katama and Sakonnet, etc...

So, both the Desert Tan and Blue interior were being produced at the same time.

Therefore, the last blue hull was #3A6250, however this did not mean that this was the start of the Desert Tan hulls as they were already being made.

Joe,

That's not quite right. The Katama and Sakonnet, were produced in Desert Tan in 1972, 1973, 1974 and so on. I do not know of any blue hulled Whaler made after 1971.

OK... My thinking was off on those models.

Actually, Whaler did make some later blue interiors for the 30th Anniversary 13' models in 1998.

Tom , thanks for the pics. I noticed that this boat had the front rails which I have not seen on any other pics. Could this be a hint of year model or just an option?

Bow rail was a $100 option in 1972. That's over $500 in 2009 dollars.

Regarding Tom's post #9.
The console doesn't have the teak plywood instrument and electrical panels. Also the North Carolinians must take their drinking seriously judging by the custom drink holder on the top of the console. I'm always spilling mine for lack thereof.

Barryg-- the bimini on your Cohasset-- any idea who made it? I noticed in your pic that it lays down towards the bow. Any feedback on it appreciated, I am undecided about a bimini.
