I have a 1965 13' sport I am redoing. I want to have a center console, but I want to be able to remove it so the boat can be flipped for bottom work. My plan was to add side stringers onto the hull deck and fiberglass them in. Then I could add studs or insert to attach the console and decking without having to puncture the existing hull. Anyone tried this before? Or any comments?

George

what ever you do please remember that there is no wood under the floor except a small piece where the side console screws to the floor.I have seen many people put narrow consoles in 16 foot whalers and screw them to the floor not realizing they are missing the wood that is under the floor.there are two strips of wood that run under the fiberglass from the console back to where the pilot seat is and it is only about 4 or 5 inches wide.if you miss those your console is only holding on very thin fiberglass.on this website you can find wood locating diagrams to find the wood that was put in various parts of the boat for different mounting options.i worked at the factory in the moulding dept.people have been killed because of consoles tearing out while jumping waves.enough said.

That is exactly why I plan to add the stringers. By glassing them to the deck strongly I will have a solid wood area on both sides to bolt to.

Thanks
George

After doing some searching at Seacast about raising my transom I discovered that there product is also used to replace, or build new stringers. This seems to be the best out for me in my operation. They have a lot of independent test showing that thier product is great at holding threaded hardware so It should be just what I need. I recemend that anyone thinking along these lines go to that website http://transomrepair.com/zk/ There is a great amount of information there.
