In 2008 the #1 cause of deaths - 278 of them -- in boating accidents was because of capsizing, flooding or swamping.

Last month the U.S. Coast Guard awarded a two-year grant to the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and Davis & Company (boat surveyors) to investigate capsizing and swamping occurrences in recreational boating. The last time the USCG investigated this category of accident in a special study was in the 1970s. In 2008 there were 856 reported accidents involved with capsizing, swamping or flooding, and 535 (62.5%) of these involved "cabin motorboats" or "open motorboats." Greg Davis at Davis & Co will be leading the investigations. John Adey at the ABYC said that at the end of the two-year study a report will be given to the USCG, and the ABYC will determine if new design standards are needed that could reasonably be expected to reduce the number of accidents of this type.

Boston Whaler is the only manufacture that builds a boat with full foam, level flotation. A lot of companies will claim there boats are unsinkable but there is an inherent difference how they float. As you see in the two pictures above both vessels did not sink and neither of them floated level. You are completely exposed to the elements and exposure to cold water is one of the leading causes of boating related deaths. The pictures below show Boston Whalers commitment to your safety since day 1 to present. The foam flotation is positioned all the way up to the gunnel, so even a swamped, overloaded boat will still provide you with a safety ring around you. I have actually witnessed this myself at the Boston Whaler factory in Florida.

We have just received a large shipment of 13 to 25 foot Boston Whalers with some more on the way. We are taking advantage of inventory at US dealers and picking up some non-current inventory for amazing deals! Please feel free to come visit me at our Burnaby location to see whats new and learn more about the these boats and the incredible deals we have.

The letter will have stated it.
I will guess that the word originally may have been silent.

The "Mighty" B/W 13' is often the boat of choice for local Fire Department's "RESCUE" squad's around here, it's light, Fast, and can be pulled over ice, or moved into a remote location easily. I think they like them because, pulling somebody on board from a water rescue is easy, and it won't sink, even if heavily loaded.

I am as big a Boston Whaler fan as anybody but this seems like a false statement at least now days, for example based on these pics Key West has full foam:

Now there are other factors besides foam, the tri-hull design on my Montauk should theoretically be more stable swamped than a Key West perhaps have less of a chance to capsize in such a situation, as I have not seen another boat demo this:

Maybe we need a FAQ entry of other boat makes known to do full foam floatation:

1. Key West
2. McKee
3. Edgewater
4. Everglades?
5. Robalo?
6. ???

Edit: changed pics to links since Key Wests website is down, maybe they got too much traffic from here, lol.

I have sometimes heard that "Imitation" is actually the best of compliment when talking about names.
Names, having followed in the footsteps of the innovating designs such as the example here;
Boston Whaler.
PS- No 6 will be Stripers.

An interesting article to be sure;
But importantly for some of us that may have been on the lookout for such an occasion;

"We have just received a large shipment of 13 to 25 foot Boston Whalers with some more on the way. I thought that it was well worth while to pass this notice along.

As time has progressed other boats have gotten better. I for one would buy one of the new Triumphs. They are incredible boats. The reason BW is #1 is it is both safe and stylish. The Triumphs don't have the appeal of the older whalers. As far as new boats go, the Triumph is a very good boat.

And yet another piece of the puzzle.
The history of the design will be a most interesting subject to be studied.
