Does anybody have a 4s 8 hp etc mounted on a 17 Montauk? Have started to buy one, but transom has a slope down to the side and motor mounts at a leaning angle. Also concerned with weight. Does anyone have a unit mounted that makes a neat installaton without a mounting bracket? Do not want to bolt direct to transom if possible. Any suggestions or photos would be appreciated. Thanks

Bolt it directly on the transom using a 20 inch Long Shaft kicker.
Lots of photos in the personal page section of members with kickers mounted on their Montauks.
Also an article in the Article section:

It will hard to mount it off the transom if you do not want to drill holes... Did I read you post right?
I had a custom one made for the same reason you state, but it needs to be bolted. I do no think weight will be a problem as long as I stay with a lighter 2 stroke for main power. See the thread below for pictures and comments.

I know of 3 Montauks in my area and many on this site (my boat included) that have their kicker clamped motor bolted or clamped directly to the transom, starboard side just as Joe recomended above. By the way look at Joe's tutorial on kickers. His Outrage has a sweet kicker setup. He has said before that he had the same setup on a Montauk prior to running it on his Outrage.
I have a 7.5 hp Honda 2cylinder/4stroke long shaft that is clamped and has a safety chain (no holes drilled) mounted directly to the transom. I have seen up to a 15hp 2stroke clamped on the transom of a Montauk.

I should have said "Bolt it or Clamp it" directly on the transom....
You do not have to bolt the motor to the transom if you don't want to drill holes...
Just use the clamps that come on most smaller engines.
You can put a shim under one side of the engine before you clamp it to the transom so the engine is vertical to the boat..

Do those small motors even have provisions to bolt them to the transom?
