There is what looks like a copper disc about the size of a silver dollar mounted on the bottom of the transom of my outrage 20. The wire went to the battery so I guess it's a ground, but is it necessary? I've never seen such a thing.

Also I've tried attaching a picture after downsizing the image to 57KB but it's not coming up in the preview. Wonder what I'm doing wrong.

Harry,

Take a look in the OEM Photo Section.
There you will find out what this disc is.....
It is a fuel tank grounding disc.

Yes, the images do not show up in the preview but will show up after you have posted.
If they don't show up after it is posted, then you can go back and "Edit" your post.

So I guess it was originally connected to the tank?

The tank under the floor has been abandoned so I'm thinking it's probably shot, but I might be fixing it in some future revolution.

Harry,

Yes, it was connected to the fuel tank via a GREEN wire. This wire sometimes turned yellow on the outside of the boat that was exposed to the elements but is green inside the boat.

Here is an attached photo of one that I just replaced on my prior 22' Outrage Cuddy.
You DO NOT want to paint the grounding disc like it is shown in your photo. That is a NO NO...
