I am repowering my 1996 19' Outrage II. Does anyone know how well a 150HP will push this hull?

Thanks

A 1996 19' Outrage is the Outrage III.

Factory test data I have indicates it will do 43 MPH with a Johnson 150.

Our Whaler Model Specifications list stops a the 1995 Outrage 19 II as the III model has the newer Accu-Trac hull and we haven't gotten to all the newer models yet.
http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...owstart=40

The 1996 Outrage 19' III has a max hp rating of 225hp..... and a minimum of 130hp... Most of these models I have seen have had a 200hp on the transom. This was the only year this model had that name as the name was changed the following year to Outrage 20'...
So, even though it is technically an Outrage 19' III it is also an Outrage 20'...

NOTE:
The Outrage 19' III had a name change to Outrage 20' for 1997 and 1998...
All these models had a max hp rating of 225hp.....

I don't think I would put anything less than a 200hp on this model.
I owned the earlier and lighter 1989 Outrage 20' and it had a 200hp on the back which I thought was just right.

Thanks for the quick response. I actually had a typo in the thread. It is an Outrage II not a III. The max HP is 225. The previous owner put a Honda 225HP on it but it is too heavy for the boat. The engine spays water back into the transome at mid-high speeds.

I would like to get another Honda 4 stroke so I don't have to replace all of the accessories. But the 150 is the only one that is light enough. (The 200 weighs the same as the 225). I am worried that the 150HP will be too slow with a few people on board.

You might want to change the YEAR in your first post then....

What year is it?

The 1990 to 1995 Outrage 19' II has a max hp rating of 150hp....

The 150 hp would be a good choice then.

This Current Engine Choice Guide is for Outrage 18'/19' models....

Do you have batteries mounted in the stern that can be moved to the center console for better weight distribution? If so, relocating two group 24 batteries will move nearly 100 pounds from the back of the vessel.

I've just completed moving my batteries to the center console in my 1991 17' Outrage I in preparation for a new Etec 115. The Etec 115 weighs a bit more than the 1990 Mercury 115 I'm replacing and my boat was already stern heavy.

dremick,

No, the 19' Outrage II was the same exterior hull as the classic Outrafge 18 but had a modified interior mold. It had a maximum power rating of 150 HP.

The 19' Outrage III was introduced in 1996 with a completely new hull with a maximum power rating of 225 HP as Joe points out above.

Do you have a 1996 19' Outrage III or is it a 1995 or earlier 19' Outrage II?

It appears dremick has a 1996 Outrage 19' III but just doesn't realize it....
If it is rated for a 225, then it is an Outrage 19' III...

However, it could be one of the transitional 1996 models.
We have 1 (one) 1996 Outrage 19' II model that has the older hull but is rated for 150 hp...
See this thread and view the 1996 by floridasailor....

Joe,

Thanks for the clarification. I am sure my local Whaler rep who sold me the boat will be interested as well. It must be a Outrage III because it is rated to 225HP. Do you know what the max engine weight is for that hull? I was told the hull is the same as the new Justice 19'. But the guy who told me that also told me it was an Outrage II.
