i just bought a 1992 evinrude 25 hp outboard for my whaler and am attempting to get it running. I just rebuilt the carb, replaced the plugs, plug wires, and powerpack. It started right up but would not stay running. I accidentally hit the primer solenoid with my elbow (which turned it from "run" to "prime" and immediately turned it back. Now, it won't start. It has spark, but I'm guessing no fuel. I tried starting fluid just to see if it would turn over, but nothing. Any idea's? By the way, I tested the resistance of the primer solenoid, and it is still within spec range according to my 'rude manual.
Do you think the engine might be flooded? Try this, remove the plugs from the cylinders, plug them back into the wires and ground them to the block. Now with the throttle wide open crank the engine. It should spin relatively quickly and blow any extra fuel from the cylinders. Re-install the plugs and try firing it up. You may even want to try advancing the throttle 1/2 way or more to help it start.
