I have acquired a 30HP 2000 Mercury 2 cycle that was left on its side for a few years; outside with no protection.

Got it running and hung it on the back of my 13 foot Boston Whaler Duckboat (built in 1962,,,same year I graduated from High School!), But I can't get the manual tilt pin to do its job. It seems to be frozen in its sleeve.

I've tried WD40, heat, clamps and pounding...all to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Right now I plan to rig a secondary means of supporting the engine in a tilted position while moored. But, come winter, it should be possible to fix the pin/sleeve problem. Do I just demount the head and press the old pin/sleeve out and replace with new?
