I'm in the home stretch with the installation of my new short block for my 1999 225 DFI Merc Optimax.
Can anyone give me some guidance with the proper start up procedure for a new engine.
a; I'm looking for specific info for priming the oiling system.
b; Will I need to contact a tech with a laptop and Mercs program to reset the ECM to the break in mode?
c; Or can I add 2 stroke oil to my fuel during the break in time period?
Any accurate information will be extremeley appreciated.

The ECM will reset to breakin mode by turning the key to the on position then advance the throttle from idle to wide open 5 times. Make sure the prop is engaged with the gears (may have to have someone hold it during process).
Scrimshaw... Key in the run position but with engine not running... 5 times from idle to WOT... gradual acceleration and then back. Is there a certain amount of time this should be completed in?
Thanks for your guidance,
Is there any particular prayer that should be said prior to starting this procedure for a long healthy life of my engine?
