How do i know what color, and where can i get paint for an 1990 90 Evinrude lower unit?
Have a look at the last pic on my page. Is the lower unit blue, metallic blue, or black? and wehre to i get them.
Anyone have experience in this? should i wire brush it first? primer? or just paint over?
Thanks!

Just locate and call your closest Evinrude dealer, tell them what you have and they should be able to help you out. Most of the time they will tell you what you want to know over the phone and then with that information, you can do a little research to find the best deal on paint.

The dealer will know, I lightly sand the area to be painted, then I hit it with 2 coat's of primer, 2 coat's of paint, then I put on clear "Anti-fouling" engine paint on the motor bracket and skeg.

Use zinc oxide primer only.

Bink, where do I get zinc oxide primer? The last time I painted my lower unit, I used rustoleum primer and that sucked. Two years later I have corrosion popping up.

Cliff, I got mine at the Evinrude dealer when I was picking up some touch up paint. It's part number 6-5606 by MarPro, yellow zinc chromate primer, about $10 per can.

You can also look on the BRP Online Parts catalog.
They show the paint and part numbers there.
