It has been tossed around several times but no one has really said anything defineI. I plan to get together with some of the eastern NC folks this summer, i cannot stray too far as I am taking almost a full semester worth of summer classes. However I would like to meet and get a look at some other whalers. Anybody interested in making this happen?

That is all we do here in NC, Talk about doing stuff, meeting, greeting etc.
Never do it! (Well that is a little lie, we have had one meet.)
I am ready to do it again, maybe have a cook out thing happnin', get some more of the families involved.

I just attended a whaler rendezvous on the waccamaw river in SC, I live in Charlotte and will gladly trailer down to the NC coast to hook up and talk boats...someone needs to pick a date, find a place to meet and figure out a reasonable goal like a trip or small fishing tourney etc.

OK Winter is still here, but it will get warmer soon. Let's start this thread up again and arrange/plan a meet this spring...
Sound like a good idea?

You might be able to talk me into bringing the boat down to Norfolk.

I would trailer my Katama to Norfolk too, do it anyway to fish. Launched out of Cobbs Marina last weekend and found more schoolies than I could keep track off.
A summer/ or fair weather meet would be fun.

Hey,
It is only a few years later but I am looking to get this rolling again as soon as the Miss Phrisky gets out of the Shop. I live in the Raleigh area and do some lake boating but also get coastal as often as possible. I have been out of Sea Level, NC (Drum Inlet), Harkers Island (Cape Lookout), and Wilmington (Masonboro Inlet).
I am looking to get together with some other Whaler Owners to swap stories and fish tales. I'll get the coffee and doughnuts or cokes and burgers and we'll make a day of it. I am 35, married with 4 children so I am looking to keep it family friendly. I grew up fishing from a 17' Montauk that we trailered to the Gulf Of Mexico and The Keys. We eventually upgraded to the 18' Outrage. We were planning on moving up to a 22' Outrage when my dad died of a heart attack while on vacation in the Keys.Shortly after we returned to Louisiana we sold it (I was 17 and had little say in the decision).
So I was whalerless for a few years and had to fish with a buddy on his Montauk which was terrific except that he is not quite as interested in the whole thing as I am. Last year my fever (Whaler-Fever) had reached a boiling point when I located an old whaler in Swansboro on Craigslist. It looked unloved but performed nearly flawlessly. My Lady said we could spring for it if I sold my hunting truck ('88 F-250 4x4) and my little boat (16' Louisiana Traveler w/ 35 Mercury). I slept on it and posted ads on craigslist. In no time flat I was towing her home and blowing hundreds on tackle direct dot com, after stopping at Wal Mart for a new trailer strap and Beaufort for a quick test splash.
So anyhow the trailer is now needing to be replaced which the mechanic warns me may happen several more times over the life of this hull. Fortunately the motor(1999 Mercury Optimax 200) still runs like a scalded dog.
So I am thinking early June. My children (that are in school) will be out of school. It should be warm and less windy than preceding months. Get back with me folks!
