The motor was overheating with a the tell tale stream visible, so I pulled and replaced water pump. It won't pump any water now with the new one in. I've checked several times to make sure the impellar is turning and it is. I'm concerned maybe a blockage?

Key has not slipped out. I pulled lower unit 3 times thinking it was that to make sure. Now I know cause I can hear the impeller turning as I turn the prop. Is it possible to secure the lower unit in place and pick up tube not align? How do you change the alignment of the pick up tube?

It's kinda loose, when you put the lower unit up to bolt back in, make sure that the water pump slip's into the pick up tube, you might have to bend the tube with your finger if they are NOT lining up, then try again, check o-ring on pump housing, is there NO cooling water at all ?? or just no water coming out of the "Tell tale" ?

How do I check if there is some cooling water if there is none comming out of tell tale? I looked inside the thermostat housing and it wasnt wet. There is an o-ring at top of drive shaft, that's the only 0-ring im familiar with. I'll check the pick up tube this afternoon.

Their should be some water coming out of the exhaust, the tell tale could be clogged.

Pull that tube off completely and make sure you can blow thru it.

Matter of fact, leave off the tube and run the engine momentarily to make sure water comes out the fitting of the block for the tell tale tube.
I had a small rock stuck in the fitting not allowing water to go thru.
I had to remove the fitting and get the rock out.

Is the thermostat stuck in the closed position? Try removing the thermostat all together to see if this helps. As stated above, make sure the pickup tube is properly connected.

The thermo was replaced and it's been out competly anyway during trouble shooting. I pulled lower unit again yesterday evening. The pickup tube is straight as an arrow and I can't see it not being aligned when bolted on. I will pull the tell tale hose off at the block and check that next. I'm worried that the overheating was never an impeller issue as much as corrosion in the block that now impedes the water flow comletely.

Like Joe said check that tell tale for clogs, I recently ran aground and had mine clogged with sand.
