I have the lower unit off and I'm trying to get to the impeller. It appears the cover which screws into the top of the lower unit has been "hamered in place without the use of the proper tool. The top of the cover has 4 3/16" holes that I would assume a dual pin type wrench is used to losen/tighten the cover. Can anyone tell me what this tool is called and where I can get one?
Also, it appears water is getting into the lower unit as my fresh gear lube looks cloudy when I drained it. Does anyone know the usual suspect for this type of leakage?
Couldn't find anything regarding the tool on oldmercs.com. But I found this guy from MANY google searches http://www.johnsmcintosh.com/Tools.htm . I'm going to try and contact some local marine shops and see if they have something available to rent/borrow. The last person really jacked the cover up by pounding a screwdriver into it to tighten it, so it looks like I will likely have to buy the cover as well.
If anyone has any other fixes I'll gladly take suggestions.
