I saw the "Raritan River" when heading south on 95 a few weeks ago, I've passed over it a few times before and thought it looked very inviting, Has anyone ever fished or boated there, I know little about it as I'm from Long Island. I know it's not the "Mighty Mo" but, it looked very wide.
I used to cruise it when I was stationed on Governors Island and lived on Staten Island.
According to the US Coast Pilot #2 Page 390 Starts at Perth Amboy, goes under the NJ Turnpike (95) and the Garden State Parkway and other bridges. Depths 10-25 feet, 11 miles long and crooked. Goes to New Brunswick. Used mostly for commercial barges. A picture of it appears on page 391.
www.noaa.gov type in us coast pilot in the search block.
Click on US Coast Pilot and then #2 section.
If not familar with the US Coast Pilot it is several books that describe the waterways of the US. #2 goes from Cape Cod to Sandy Hook NJ.
My girl and I cruise it on her Jetski, its a lot of fun on a small vessel like that and not very long. There is a railroad bridge that needs to be opened for any tall vessels right at the mouth of Raritan Bay.
