considering repowering with a 2004 Honda 135 ,anyone have any experience? It would be going on an 83 Outrage 18.

Jerry, I have a 2008 135 on my 21'. I have been nothing but pleased with the Honda.
I top out at between 41-43mph, cruise at 29-31 @4k rpm, and it pops right up on plane.
Purrs like a kitten. Starts like an Accord (sounds exactly the same).
I don't think that you would get the same numbers with the 18, but maybe pretty close.

Jerry, I have a 1999 130 and there are no complaints here. I purchased it and the boat(1989 18 outrage) about a year ago and have had no problems. Starts up every time and is great on gas. The motor runs the boat out at 40+ and with two adults, two teenagers and a lot of gear ran about 35. I like the shifting of the Honda which is very smooth compared to some. BG

Thanks for the input ,I am having a tough time deciding what to do with my boat,rebuild the 87 yamaha 70? Or repower with something with a warranty,new or lightly used.

Jerry, I think the dual engines would be an advantage in your area and use. What about trying to upgrade year on the bad motor and then later ugrade the other . A little less slam to the pocket book and gets the job done? BG

Jerry, I've been reading your posts and the best advise I can give is think it through. Mistakes tend to happen when you don't take your time and weigh each option. Trust me, my heart goes out to you with the engine problem. The easiest fix would be to pick up another Yamaha 70. You're all set up for it. Then you could take your time and make a decision which way you want to go. If my engine was a pile of junk, I would consider your set-up.

BarryG ,I have already located a 2006 70 to replace the bad one ,with the intention as you stated I would like to replace the other one when it dies or if I find find a good deal,we think alike. HarleyFXDL, I agree haste makes for poor decisions,I do love the setup,Im just gunshy buying used again,I already got burnt. Im the type that mulls through the decision over and over ,from possible angle every angle.I tend to over analyze.
Anyway I appreciate all the advice ,its definately helping me with my decision.

Must feel good to get it resolved, I've been "there", I know how you feel, ya gotta just shrug your shoulder's and say "That's what boat's do", move on, and don't look back, at least ya still in the game for the summer (and it's early still).

Well I now have a buyer for the complete twin setup. Looks like I might go for the 04 Honda 135. Tough decision,the issue is the reliability of the old motors vs the honda.

There was a Honda 200 on a patrol boat I used to pilot a few years ago, there were ton's of hours on it, it ran 20 hours a day, and did it without any problem's. The "ONE" problem that we had with the engine was that it was so quiet, people would forget to shut it down after returning to port.

In2Deep,
I just ran across your thread. I have an Outrage 18 with a 2004 BF135 4stroke as well. According to my GPS the boat WOT tops off at around 35mph at 5500 rpms with just me on the boat. Is this the performance you're getting? I know the engine is HEAVY at 485 pounds but always thought the boat should be faster.

I have been running a 150 Honda since 2004, on my 1984 18 Outrage. It has been absolutely flawless. No GPS reading, but speedo, paddlewheel is mid to upper 40's.

I just realized last night that I bought In2Deep's boat!! I recognized the engine type and then recalled that his name was Jerry from L.I.. Anyway, considering the many repairs and threads that were on this website from In2Deep, I'm double checking some of the hull flaws he talked about. Pretty shoddy fixes and will have to correct them in the spring. Full disclosure, even though I would probably have bought the boat anyway, would have been nice.
Joe, thanks for your 150 numbers. I love the Honda engine as well but even a 135 should be around 40. Even in light of the newly learned hull damage (though there are no indications of a waterlogged hull) I'm wondering why the boat isn't faster.
If anyone has any info of my Outrage from past threads the info would be highly welcomed! Thanks everyone.
