i live in santa barbara. right near the harbor, too. but i'm not knowledgeable about ocean fishing... yet. but now that i have a small boat, i have plenty of boatless freinds who know about fishing who are willing to teach me.

been fishing the kelp pads right outside the santa barbara harbor, for kelp bass. today, i caught at giant kelpfish though. seems not much is known about them. i can hardly find a citation more than a few sentences when googling.

Yellow tail when they are running.
I have fished near Los Angeles a few times and caught white sea bass and sandbass, People catch halibut and bonito too.
Good luck Smile

Bonito are fun to catch (a cousin of the Tuna), they run with the Bluefish here on the east coast, they're a Blast on light tackle, except, your arm's will feel like "Spaghetti" after nailin about 10 of 'em in 4 minutes, when they're going "NUTS" in a"Blitz".
