I just bought my first Whaler and now I've got to get a New Jersey Safe Boating Certificate by June 1st. Apparently you can take a class in person or online, followed by an officially proctored exam.

So my question is: does anyone have any experience with the online courses? If so, was it any good and do you recommend one in particular? Any advice is much appreciated.

No experience with the online, but did take class last year and it lasted a few hours and killed a Saturday sitting in a crowded firehouse with 75 other people sweating it out.

I recall my wife looking at the online course option, but for some reason it did not seem to work out

Thanks but I'm up in Bergen/Passaic county area so LBI is too far. There's a one-man operation that offers it near me on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Two sessions and you're done, sounds rather painless but it means skipping one of my regular activities on Wednesday night and I was looking for an alternative. I don't want June 1 to come with me stuck on land - I just picked up my first Boston Whaler today, a 1981 Montauk and I'm pretty sure I'll be on the water ever chance I get this summer.
