Hello,
New to the forum and in search of some information. I am looking at a 1969 Menemsha in great condition and was wondering if anyone has any information on these unique whalers...I can't find much info online and was hoping to see if anyone has any information.
Thanks
Matt

Welcome to the site............Go to site search and key in Menemsha under forum post.........someone posted info on one a few months ago and you should be able to find his contact info there. Also look at the Whaler Model Specifications on the left under photo gallery.

When I google Boston Whaler Menemsha, I get over 1500 hits. There is a lot of good information out there.
I suspect the one you are looking at is the one which is actually on a newer smirked hull and has the 140 HP outboard. It looks like a nice boat.

Flagwhaler- I have a 1969 Menemsha, restored this last year and repowered a couple of weeks ago. Take a look at my personal page, it has links to many pics that may help you. Let me know what kind of info you are looking for. The 140 is a lot of power, (overpowered by 40) but you might like it. The ride is great, and with a smirked hull, I can't help but think it might ride even better than the non-smirked, which rides really well! -k

I was hoping Kevin would speak up. I've had the pleasure of going out on his Menemsha a few times. The boat handles chop well, and on cold days- that structure and cool little windshield make things much more comfortable.

Thanks all for the information. I am torn because I wouldn't be able to do much of a restore/repower until next year as I am finishing up school...no time. Will post pics if it works out...BTW, is the replaced hull a big deal...would rather have all original...

I guess it depends on what you want the boat for. It's kind of hard to describe a boat with a "new hull". The one you are looking at is more like a smirked Montauk which has been modified or retrofited with a Menemsha cabin/interior. After all, the Hull ID number should describe what the boat started out as.
If you are a purist, then pass on this one. If you want a functional retrofited Montauk/Menemsha style, go for it and have fun!
The cabin and seat/fish cooler layout makes for a really great dry ride, although it's slower than a Montauk. It's a great layout for trolling and downlining, but not much good for casting or flats type fishing.
If you are thinking of resale value, keep in mind it is a specialty item, some folks think the Menemsha is ugly, and useless, others fall in love with the character of the boat. Every time, and I mean every time I launch my boat, I get comments from folks about how neat it is, and how unusual it is. While trailering her to the lake yesterday, I clearly lip read a passerby saying "What the f---- is that?!!". Some folks just shake their heads! -k
