I have been searching for my first boat for a while now. We have 3 kids (16, 14, 10) and will be doing light fishing, day cruising up to 10 miles max offshore around Midcoast Maine. Since it's our first boat, I have been targeting a fairly turnkey setup that won't be a maintenance nightmare, and will provide wife and kids with a pleasurable first experience (set the hook so to speak). Some protection from the elements, enough room to hang out in reasonable comfort, but small enough that they will be willing to drive too.

This may be the one. I checked it out yesterday and they have it on hold for me pending a sea trial. It's a 1998 21' Conquest (very good condition) with a 2004 Yamaha 225HP four stroke (commissioned in 2006 - around 100 hours). It doesn't have a trailer, so I'm on the hunt for that now. Thinking a tandem bunk 5000# would be appropriate.

Any feedback on that specific hull and motor, as well as trailer recommendations from similar size Conquest/Outrage owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mike

Mike -

I think a Conquest 21 would be a good choice for your waters. Does the boat come with any canvas? The few Conquest's I have seen in Casco Bay have the windshield extension, top and side curtains.

As for the F225, I have not read of many problems with this engine although you might want to scan the I-Boats Yamaha forum. Do you have a good dealer/mech for Yamaha's in your area?

If no kicker, I suggest a Sea Tow membership.

Hey Phil - thanks for the comments. The boat does have the plastic windshield extension, canvas top and plastic side curtains.

Thanks for the pointer to the I-Boats Yamaha forum - I'll check that out. Yep, I had checked that the marina close by to us has a 5 star Yamaha certification.

No kicker, but I was planning to get Sea Tow in any case.

Thanks!
