First off I want to thank all who have contributed to this site. I found a second Dauntless 15 and using the resources of this site I was very comfortable evaluating the boat.
The first boat I posted pics of is still not available. Price has dropped $400 to compensate for a mistake in how the boat was originally represented to me. It will be another week or so before I can go see it. Fishing season starts in 5 days.
I updated my personal page with pictures of the second Dauntless. It is available now. Its a year older. Condition is good. Motor is a two stroke. It compares well. As much as I like the idea of a 4 stroke if the price is comparable I would go get the two stroke boat tomorrow just so I could use it this weekend. I'm getting anxious.

Tig, the Dauntless looks really nice. How many hours on the Johnson 70. I noticed there is no opening at the rear of the helm seat, where is the fuel tank and how large is it? They won't throw the trailer in for a bit more? Unless you do not need it. Theres one pic that shows a couple of black spots on the front port side just below the rub rail, what are those? How much are they asking for the Dauntless? The boat looks a bit nicer than the one your waiting on Tig.

I don't know the hours on the motor. I will do a compression test before I buy.
The helm seat top lifts off and a 6 gallon tank sits underneath. Fuel line runs over the floor.
I don't need a trailer so I won't pursue that. Even if I did need a trailer they are not simple or cheap to import.
The black spots are chips in the gelcoat. The boat has many due to the rocky neighborhood it was used in. Most are above the water line. None of them seem to have damaged the glass underneath.
The original asking price was was $2300 CND more that the other boat is now. However, on viewing day the boat had to cross the border from the US. There was a snag and the dealer got spooked so he washed his hands of the deal and asked the owner to deal with me directly. That means $1K less cost to import the boat and no commission for the dealer. If I buy this boat, I will import it since the cost (tax) is the same as purchase taxes from the dealer. I told the owner about the other boat I'm looking at and it's price (which has since dropped $400). I asked the owner to check out exchange rates and figure out what he needs to get. If it's close I will try to buy it. If it's not close then it's not meant to be. Our dollar is weak nowadays so that works against me.

She looks nice and is setup like mine where the fuel tanks go in the stern. We like having the space below the the seat for storage. Does this one have the rear deck? 2 6-gallon tanks fit pretty good beneath my deck. Either here or CW I saw info on a company where you can get one.
If the price is reasonable considering the condition of the motor you may have found your boat.
Brought ours to SC this week and took a trip up the Pee Dee River from Georgetown today. Will hit the Waccamaw River tomorrow. This certainly beats sitting on the beach.

Tig,
What about a 16SL (dual console set up) which is on the same hull as an early 16 Dauntless? There is a very VERY nice one I found for under 7k. It is a boat which is a cottage boat and is stored up north however, the seller is in the Detroit area.
We sold our 1984 to a guy in Sarnia On. and it was not a big deal at all for him to import the vessel. Contact me through email if you need help or more info on the boat.

Mike No rear deck on either boat, which suits me for now. If I get back in to musky fishing I may reconsider that.
Thanks for the offer and info Jeff. 16SL does look like a nice boat but I prefer the center console.
Import on the boat seems reasonable. I think I understand what I need.
A $0 receipt for delivery to Canada. That clarifies that the boat was sold for delivery out of state. No state tax is due.
A receipt for the boat and motor. Full federal and provincial tax will be due on this at the border.
I'll need to get the Canadian capacity tag for the hull and remove the US one.
I spoke with the owner of the Johnson powered boat this evening. We are not at all close on price. Last year when our dollar was strong it would be a done deal. Right now the exchange rate is the difference.
Anyone have any thoughts on what either of these boats are worth in $US ?

In my neck of the woods, I would say in the $6-7K range for a very nice one w/a good motor. Seen a few listed above this that are not selling on the SC coast.

Thanks for the opinion Mike. One of these boats is above that range.
It's hard to judge condition at this point. One boat was photographed in bright sunlight. Flaws seem to disappear when photographed under those conditions. I won't post all the dings and flaws that I photographed but for example I took a pic of the console to document a very noticeable impact. The gelcoat is cracked and peeling in an area the size of an egg. Seems that my photography skills are lacking because it is barely noticeable in the picture.
The other boat was photographed in subdued lighting. It seems to show everything, but I can't be certain. The only way to know is the stand in front of the boat.
Dealer hopes to show it to me Monday after they clean it up and fix the rub rail.
Not sure I have the patience. Walleye season opens Saturday
