Is it possible to buy a new Whaler without a motor or with another motor besides a Mercury on it? I'm not trying to open a discussion as to whether or not a Mercury is a good motor or not, as I'm sure it is, I just don't want one. Kind of like some people like Fords and some like Chevrolet. I just don't want a Mercury.

They say no. But I also have spoken with a dealer or two who have been less than enchanted with GE's new floor plan financing's, and Boston Whaler's help in this downturn as well.
I bet if you went to such a dealer, who also was an Evinrude or Yamaha dealer, who had a boat in inventory that he was financing, and you were serious, interesting and magical things could happen.

Why not speak with a dealer about ordering a hull through the commercial division?

The recreational hulls need to be purchased as a package.
However, I have heard of people buying the package and then trading the motor for a different motor before taking delivery.
This can be setup with your dealer beforehand if they are willing and if they carry other brands of outboard motors. Of course you may lose a little money on the trade-in...
