I have a 1972 Eastport and it has two holes on the transom I have no idea what was there or should be there. I have pictures of the holes on my personal page. If any one could advise that would be great.
Those holes are probably from the original transom mount, stand-off mechanical steering bracket.
In those days, only Mercury had mechanical steering that used the tilt tube (called Ride Guide system, which I think was patented, and required a Mercury helm unit as well), and BW rigged most boats using the stand-off bracket for use with either OMC, Bearcat or Mercury engines.
Thanks, I am going to have them filled when the hull gets redone. Just was unsure if it was a factory thing or something from my father or one of two brothers that have owned the boat
