It seems that trying to buy a short shaft motor over 20 hp these days is just about impossible. Anyone have any suggestions? Can you buy 30 or 40 hp engines (other than relics) with 15 inch shafts?

Moose bought a 40 HP Nissan motor new and he is very happy with it. Not to many short shafts available anymore.

Quite a few people are building their transoms up to accommodate 20 inch motors and to help with the backsplash of water when stopping quickly.
Here is one easy way to raise the transom.

In addition to Nissan you can also buy 25-30hp Tohatsu and Mercurys with 15" shaft. Yamahas also, but only tiller models.

thanks Joe. That transom insert is a neat piece of fabrication. It's difficult to keep an old 13'......... old.
