Ive been raised on a 13 whaler since i was 3 now im 22 and would like to redo the boat for when i have kids. There was a 35 johnson but it was pretty tired so its new motor time now that johnson doesnt make anything and i would like yamaha but you can only get a 40hp 4 stroke weighing 214lb or a 50hp 2 stroke weighing 189lb ....... What should i do
The wife says, "It's a small boat, I'd go with the engine that weighs less". The hubby says, "Sh*t-can the two stroke go with the four stroke". I'll probably catch hell for that, but he is thinking about his childrens future and I assume he's also thinking of the environmment. Would'nt you want to use the engine that puts less oil into the environment through the hub? I know I can't wait to get rid of the 225 Mercs hanging off the transom on my Conquest. Somebody make me an offer. They have 110hrs each.
The new E-Tec 2 strokes are just as clean if not cleaner than the 4 strokes. Look at the list and see which engines are CARB 3 rated. That is the highest rating at this time for GREEN, CLEAN, and MEAN....
The older 2 strokes are dead here in California for buying new ones and everyone does need to think about the keeping it clean for everyone in the future.
I must throw my 2 cents worth in and advise on the ETEC also! Lightweight, quiet, sips gas, burns almost no oil, lots of get up and go and a fantastic warranty!
